University of Iowa self-reported COVID-19 testing
These data reflect new cases since Sept. 23, 2020.
The University of Iowa has published an updated snapshot of self-reported positive COVID-19 tests from faculty, staff, and students.
Number of self-reported cases of COVID-19

These numbers reflect only self-reported positive or presumed positive COVID-19 tests from UI faculty, staff, and students on the academic campus since Aug. 18, 2020. These data will not match data reported by the UI Hospitals & Clinics or by the Iowa Department of Public Health for several reasons, including different testing time intervals and geographic scope. Students who also are employees of the university are only reported in the student number to avoid double counting. The UI has more than 30,000 students and nearly 30,000 employees. Many employees continue to work remotely but have self-reported to authorize sick leave.

*Quarantine: Quarantine is used to keep someone who might have been exposed to COVID-19 away from others.
**Self-isolation: Isolation is used to separate people infected with the virus (those who are symptomatic and those with no symptoms) from people who are not infected.
Reminder: Student health and safety expectations
The Office of Student Accountability (OSA) is reminding students that they are expected to adhere to campus health and distancing guidelines both on and off campus— and not doing so may be addressed through the Code of Student Life and Accountability Procedure.
OSA issued directives regarding student behavioral expectations as well as updated guidelines for student engagement and registered student organizations, including the Fraternity and Sorority Life community.
From the last update shared on Sept. 11, 2020, to date, OSA has received the following complaints:
Failure to social distance: 192 reports
- 55 students were found in violation of university policy
- 40 received a disciplinary reprimand*
- 15 received a written warning
- 50 students were cleared of having violated policy
- 87 complaints are pending review
Failure to wear a face covering: 186 reports
- 29 students were found in violation of university policy
- 26 received a disciplinary reprimand
- 2 received a written warning
- 1 received a bystander course
- 100 students were cleared of having violated policy
- 57 complaints are pending review
Failure to follow guest policy expectations: 67 reports
- 23 students were found in violation of university policy
- 18 received disciplinary reprimands
- 5 received a written warning
- 25 students were cleared of having violated policy
- 19 complaints are pending review
Failure to follow quarantine/isolation expectations: 7 reports
- 3 students were found in violation of university policy
- 2 received disciplinary reprimands
- 1 received a written warning
- 2 were cleared of having violated policy
- 2 complaints are pending review
- No new student organizations are under investigation for violating policy
* A written notice to a student explaining that their violation of institutional policy warrants an official record to be kept in the Office of Student Accountability. A subsequent university policy violation following a disciplinary reprimand could result in the imposition of more serious sanctions.
