UI to host COVID-19 vaccine clinic for students April 21–22
The University of Iowa will host a vaccination clinic for UI students next week, thanks to continued vaccine allocation from Iowa Department of Public Health and Johnson County Public Health. The vaccine provided will be the Pfizer-BioNTech.
The vaccination clinic will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day on Wednesday, April 21, and Thursday, April 22, in the main lounge of the Iowa Memorial Union (IMU).
Students who wish to be vaccinated must first complete a COVID-19 immunization survey. After completion of the survey, students will receive an email with directions on how to sign up for a time slot to be vaccinated during the clinic. If students have already completed the survey, they do not need to complete it a second time.
Many time slots will be available, so friends should be able to sign up for the same time and attend together, if they wish.
Student Health will hold a second vaccination clinic at the IMU on Thursday, May 13, and Friday, May 14, to provide the second dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine and will assist students with scheduling their follow up appointment immediately after they receive their first dose. It is important for students to consider their class and final exam schedule when making these appointments.
Individuals are required to receive their first and second dose from the same provider, so students should ensure that they are available to come to campus for both doses. If they can’t come during finals week, Student Health will have appointments available in the Westlawn Building on Newton Road during the following week (May 16–21). The vaccine will be provided free of charge.
Vaccine update: UI vaccine incentive program
Vaccinations will play a critical role in stopping the COVID-19 pandemic in our community and around the world. The good news is there is strong interest in the vaccine, which will benefit our community as a whole.
In order to further encourage students to consider getting a COVID-19 vaccine, the university will offer a one-time $10 Iowa City Downtown District gift card, beginning today (Friday, April 16).
Students must present their completed Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) vaccination card and Iowa One Card (student ID) at the Iowa Memorial Union (IMU) Welcome Center to obtain their gift card. Students who receive the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine will need to show a vaccine card with both doses completed, or a single dose with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Students do not need to be vaccinated through the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics or Student Health in order to be eligible for this program. Any valid vaccination card will be accepted.
The IMU Welcome Center is located on the first floor of the IMU and is open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Students who are not eligible for a vaccine due to medical condition or religion also are eligible to receive a gift card. Stop by the Office of the Dean of Students, 135 Iowa Memorial Union, to obtain an exception.

The University of Iowa strongly encourages students, faculty, and staff to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, in consultation with their health care provider.
Please keep in mind immunity is not achieved immediately after receiving the vaccine. It also will take time for everyone who wants to be vaccinated to receive the required doses. In the meantime, we can continue to protect ourselves and each other by wearing a mask, maintaining physical distance from others, washing our hands frequently, and avoiding indoor gatherings with others outside our household. These numbers reflect only self-reported positive or presumed positive COVID-19 tests from UI faculty, staff, and students on the academic campus since Aug. 18, 2020. These data will not match data reported by UI Hospitals & Clinics or by the Iowa Department of Public Health for several reasons, including different testing time intervals and geographic scope. Students who also are employees of the university are only reported in the student number to avoid double counting. The UI has more than 30,000 students and nearly 30,000 employees. Many employees continue to work remotely but have self-reported to authorize sick leave.
